    Aniar Restaurant : Sample Menu

    Aniar Restaurant

Aniar is a terroir based restaurant located in Galway’s West End. The word terroir is usually associated with wine-making: the combination of factors, including soil, climate, and environment, that gives a wine its distinctive character. In the case of our restaurant, we use the word in order to describe the way in which our food comes from the specific place that is Galway and the west of Ireland. We hope to reveal the distinct and various food stuffs that make up our particular landscape, through our farms, the wildlands and the shores that surround us. The natural course of the seasons will dictate our ever-changing and evolving menu.

Owned and operated by Jp McMahon and Drigín Gaffey, who also own Cava Bodega and EAT Gastropub, Aniar was awarded a Michelin Star for 2013, 2014 and 2015. This supreme culinary achievement recognises the restaurant's effort to purse innovation through the prism of traditional techniques of preservation.

Aoibheann McNamara is a bona fide trailblazer. Her team at Ard Bia, led by the restaurant's manager, Amelia Colleran, take inspiration from McNamara's love of travel and slow food when it comes to their menu. Vegans will love their vegan breakfast and daily vegan stew of the day; nonvegans will love Middle Eastern and Mediterranean inspired dishes featuring the best of Irish ingredients, such as Gubbeen cheese, Hegarty cheddar, Colleran's ham, Burren Smokehouse salmon and Galway goat's yogurt. Even after nearly two decades of serving food in Galway, the Ard Bia family still have their finger firmly on the pulse.

  • Ard Bia@Nimmo's Back of the Menu, 2013 by Ard Bia

Ard Bia@Nimmo's Back of the Menu, 2013

    Ard Bia

Ard Bia @ Nimmo's is located in the Spanish Arch, Long Walk, Galway. The restaurant is located beside the river Corrib, under the Spanish Arch and across from the Musuem. The proprietor is Aoibheann McNamara.

One of Galway’s most enduring restaurant operations which is now housed in one of the city’s most iconic restaurant spaces, Ard Bia has always placed as much emphasis on community experiences and aesthetic stimulation as on serving great food in a fun environment. We believe in having roots in a place whilst having an identity that transcends location and takes inspiration from around the world.

Ard Bia is about expecting great local food with an unusual twist, the best of Irish produce served with a little exotic magic: seasoning Atlantic scallops with tangy sumac, indulging pomegranate cake with freshly whipped Irish cream, pairing produce from local artisan heroes such as butcher-turned-charcutier James McGeough with eclectic influences from the Middle East and beyond.

Ard Bia was on Quay Street five years ago then we moved into Nimmos and ran both places for two years. In 2008 we moved Ard Bia to Nimmos building in the Spanish Arch. That space is now the combination of both Ard Bia and Nimmos."

    Ballymaloe House Restaurant Dinner 2017

    Ballymaloe House

Myrtle and Ivan Allen opened Ballymaloe House, their home, to the public as a restaurant in 1964 and later as a guesthouse. This historic Irish country house is located in beautiful East Cork and is still managed by the Allen family and continues to be celebrated internationally as the home of Irish Country cuisine and warm hospitality. Condé Nast Traveller Magazine acknowledged Ballymaloe House on their Gold List, and it was the only Irish venue on this prestigious list of the World’s top 100 hotels in 2015. The Ballymaloe House restaurant continues to receive International recognition as home to the best modern Irish cuisine. Set deep in a 300 acre farm, the menus are written daily around the seasonal vegetables grown on the farm just as Mrs Allen always did. Although times have changed, the essential spirit of Ballymaloe House is rooted in the relationship from the farm to the table which underlies the elegance of Irish Country House cooking.
