About This Journal

EJFDS invites submissions that challenge and stimulate debate across contemporary and historical issues relating to food and drink within society. The Journal seeks to critically examine food and drink and their contexts within and across traditional and emerging disciplines. Submissions are invited from those engaged in research across the domains that both impact on, and are impacted upon, by the meaning of food and drink within our lives. These domains include, but are not limited to, history, archaeology, cultural studies, tradition, hospitality and education. Academic papers are the mainstay of the Journal, however the hosting of the Journal on a digital platform allows the editors flexibility and authors the opportunity of exploring a variety of formats.

Categories of Content:

Original research papers which theoretically and methodologically advance the subject area. These submissions should be 6000-8000 words and authors are requested to consult the detailed submission guidelines provided below. An original research paper should include an abstract, tables, and reference list.

Screening and Peer-Review Process:

Manuscripts will be pre-screened to ensure that they are within the aims and scope of the Journal. After pre-screening, no detailed comments, advice or justification can be provided to the authors. All papers that are successful at pre-screening will undergo a double-blind peer review process. The editors aim to have a decision on the manuscript within three months and the decision of the editors is final.

Submission Process:

An original article may be submitted for consideration for publication provided the author owns the copyright to the work being submitted or can provide proof of authorisation by the copyright owner(s) to the submission. All authors must have agreed to the submission of the article to the journal.

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book, in either print or electronic form. It is taken that by submitting to EJFDS, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review in another forum, electronic or print, and that the article will not be submitted to another journal, electronic or print, until the completion of the editorial process at the EJFDS. Authors are responsible for complying with copyright law in their submissions. Authors will keep their copyright but will license the EJFDS to publish the article under a Creative Commons License.

Submission must be made via Arrow@TU Dublin. Please go to the home page, select Account at the top right-hand corner and register. All submissions must be anonymised. Author information should be supplied in the cover letter. You will be asked to agree to the submission agreement on starting the submission process. Please note the submission process is only completed when you press the submit button. You will be notified by the system when the process is complete.

Screening and Peer-Review Process:

The review process begins as soon as the journal receives a readable article. Manuscripts will be pre-screened to ensure that they are within the aims and scope of the Journal.
