Abstract
This discussion paper provides guidance on developing a learner-centred timetabling policy at Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) to support the University Education Model (UEM) and align with the university’s Strategic Intent. The primary goal is to enhance the learner experience by optimising resource use to facilitate engagement, choice, and flexibility. Key features of a learner-centred timetable include learner choice, flexibility, transparency, feedback, and collaboration. The paper outlines the benefits of streamlining module portfolio and offering multi-modal delivery formats to maximise resource utilisation and learner agency. It also presents design principles for timetabling, emphasising accessibility, timely publication, and stakeholder collaboration. The document concludes by discussing the opportunities and challenges of adopting a learner-centred approach, highlighting the potential for improved learner engagement and resource efficiency.
