Abstract
My work involves helping researchers develop searches for various types of literature reviews. Review topics cover different subject areas and can focus on one area or be multidisciplinary. The variety of topics means that researchers must use specialist databases, and the nature of the review can mean using unfamiliar sources. This is complicated by the need to use advanced search practices, such as Boolean operators, controlled vocabulary terms, phrase searching and truncation to maximize the effectiveness of the search strategy. Developing a search strategy is an iterative process, this allows us to achieve the optimum balance between precision and recall. A search string is a list of keywords, key phrases, and sometimes controlled vocabulary terms combined with Boolean operators.
