Abstract
This article introduces the 6-Frame Model, a dynamic framework designed to enhance interprofessional practice through creative supervision within a community-based family support service. Grounded in constructivist, interpretivist, and critical realist perspectives, the model supports critical reflection, effective communication, and insights through creative processes. By integrating various theoretical approaches, it provides a robust structure for supervisors to engage in meaningful reflective dialogue with supervisees, addressing both subjective experiences and underlying objective realities impacting practice.
The model consists of six stages: Invite, Initiate, Engage, Reflect, Explore, and Apply. This approach begins with the constructivist 'Invite' and 'Initiate' phases, incorporates the interpretivist 'Engage' and 'Reflect' stages, and concludes with the critical realist 'Explore' and 'Apply' phases. Transitioning fluidly across these perspectives allows for the effective construction of topics within the supervision space, promoting reflexivity and critical dialogue to examine temporal and contextual factors affecting supervisees' experiences.
Creative supervision, as embodied by the 6-Frame Model, is an integrative approach that utilises a variety of expressive and imaginative modalities to facilitate deeper self-awareness, insight, and professional growth among supervisees. This model emphasises the importance of grounding the creative supervision process within robust ethical and theoretical frameworks, ensuring that the supervision remains respectful, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs and backgrounds of supervisees. By fostering a supportive and collaborative supervisory relationship, the 6-Frame Model enhances reflective practice, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, ultimately promoting a comprehensive and dynamic supervisory experience.
Through iterative supervision cycles, supervisors and supervisees can develop strategies to address systemic issues and improve supervision efficacy. The timeliness of the 6-Frame Model is underscored by the increasing complexity and demands placed on supervisors and supervisees across allied health, social care professions, and fields of counselling and psychotherapeutic practice. Supported by extensive literature, the model demonstrates its potential to create a transparent and equitable supervision environment that is both theoretically grounded and personally meaningful.
