Abstract
This paper considers the vexed queson of researcher bias in the selection of participants/informants through purposive sampling in an exploratory research project. It briefly outlines the context of the author’s research and explains how the perceived weakness of purposive sampling in qualitative research within a largely positivistic field of practice can be mitigated.
