Abstract
This research explainer summarises a study examining how a shared conceptual model can improve interoperability in road asset management. Drawing on a systematic review of existing ontology research, the study consolidates key domain requirements into a Unified Modelling Language (UML) model. The findings provide a foundation for developing a core domain ontology to support more consistent interpretation, exchange and integration of road asset information across BIM, GIS and asset management systems.
