Abstract

The home is central to the idea of tourism and tourist space; similarities in terms of academic study; shared, multiple disciplines. Constant pull between shelter and venture, attachment and freedom; the boundedness of place and the exposure of place’ (Tuan), Importance of home to self, importance of tourism to self; tourism space allows us to engage with self; tourism allows us to be more ourselves.

The second home owner offers a particularly rich opportunity to explore the home and tourism interface; complimentary spaces as opposed to contested spaces
