Seminar held at TU Dublin on 15 May 2019 and funded by the National for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education as part of their National Seminar Series 2018-19.

Abstract

The introduction of learning analytics to higher education can evoke fear among staff and students of Big-Brother-style surveillance via the virtual learning environment (VLE), network traffic and other digital data. This seminar aimed to provide insights into the empowering aspects of learning analytics for students themselves, as well as providing pedagogical assistance to lecturers. Ultimately it aimed to demonstrate that learning analytics can best be used as an educational tool, allowing students to self-monitor progress while simultaneously enhancing their digital literacy via knowledge of their own digital footprint within the educational context.

Sponsored by the National for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education as part of their National Seminar Series 2018-19.
