The Azores archipelago is recognised for its natural environment and the experiences it offers. Spiritual and sensory tourism fills a gap in contemporary lifestyles. Some researchers define this emerging form of tourism as a high-value product (Pacheco et al., 2022), and many tourists seek holistic harmony between body, soul and mind.

This research focuses on the tourism impacts perceived by residents and how these may influence their support for tourism activity. The literature documents studies on residents’ perceptions of tourism impacts (Charag et al., 2021; Gannon et al., 2020; Suess et al., 2020); however, there are literature gaps regarding how residents’ perceptions during periods of crisis, like the Covid 19, and after Covid 19 pandemia, that may shape their attitudes. Residents perceived quality of life directly affects their welcome and the service provided to tourists. Quantitative data collected through a questionnaire survey were subjected to statistical analysis. The aim was to encourage the integration of market dynamics involving tourists, residents, agents and service providers. Primary and secondary sources were analysed, including public policy definitions, statistical data from the Regional Statistics Service, the National Statistics Institute, Turismo de Portugal, and published scientific articles.

Azores that focuses on the specific characteristics and needs of stakeholders. Following data processing, the intention is to generate inputs for optimising the management of tourism impacts and for destination planning, in an integrated way that incorporates the quality-of-life construct. The sample represented 60% of the population, which may introduce some bias into the results. Geographic dispersion and the diversity of firms may be challenging factors to manage in this research.
