Description

This study examines the experiences of visitors to the Tumane Monastery, one of the most significant Serbian religious and pilgrimage sites. Located in a peaceful natural setting, the Tumane Monastery is known for its spiritual importance, rich history, and connection to miraculous events, making it a key religious and cultural destination in the Branievo District of Eastern Serbia. The unique combination of the monastery's religious heritage and natural beauty attracts pilgrims and tourists seeking spiritual and cultural enrichment.

Using a survey methodology, this research analyses the demographic characteristics, motives, behaviours, and perceptions of visitors (believers, pilgrims, and tourists), as well as the personal and spiritual effects resulting from their visits to the monastery. The survey was conducted with a representative sample and consists of 25 questions divided into three sections: general demographic information, details about the visit, and an evaluation of the experiences and effects of the visit to the monastery.

The aim of this research is to provide a comprehensive insight into the interconnection of faith, culture, and transformation within the context of religious tourism, using the Tumane Monastery as a case study. By analyzing the experiences and perceptions of visitors, the study seeks to highlight the significance of religious and pilgrimage sites in promoting spiritual well-being, cultural appreciation, and community identity. The results emphasize the place and role of the monastery in the consciousness of visitors, as well as the importance of the Tumane Monastery for spiritual and cultural enrichment.
