Claire Gaffney a first year student at the Faculty of Tourism and Food, School of Culinary Arts and Food Technology who is currently studying on the International Bar and Foodservice Management Programme scooped Second place at the recent Finlandia National Cocktail Championships held on the 21st November 2006 in the Grand Ballroom at the Westin Hotel, Dublin.
Claire’s mentor Mr. James Murphy (D.I.T Lecturer – Faculty of Tourism and Food) stated that “we are indeed extremely proud of all our finalists, this is a unique achievement, individually for Claire and the Faculty, her mixology skills and the culinary application of her knowledge in cocktail making places Claire amongst the top cocktail makers in Ireland at present”. The Faculty of Tourism and Food was also represented in the finals of Finlandia National cocktail Championships by Lynne Wallace (2nd year student) and Danny Walsh (1st year student) of the International Bar and Foodservice Management Programme. Praise and thanks must go to Edward Dillion’s Wines and Spirits Ltd, Slatterys Communications Ltd and of course Finlandia Vodka for a well run, professionally organised event.
