Abstract
Geospatial and archaeoastronomical analysis of the proposed location of large-scale wind turbines showed a significant negative visual impact on two National Monuments (Knockroe and Kilkieran) and on a hilltop passage tomb at Baunfree. These places straddle county boundaries and their constituent monuments are components of a rare and internationally important prehistoric landscape. Tipperary County Council gave considerable weight to the findings described in this paper in making their decision to refuse planning permission.
