Abstract
A ceramic antenna which provides UWB functionality over band group 1 is proposed for integration into a mobile handset. Two separate PIFA antennas are incorporated into a single feed structure enabling separate resonances to be independently controlled and combined to achieve wide bandwidth. This surface mounted ceramic block antenna which maintains a volume of 315 mm³ is suitable for automated production. A prototype was tested and agreement with numerical work was observed for the S11, radiation pattern and efficiency.
