Abstract

The workshop on digital transformation in the Irish construction sector was held as part of the Build Digital Annual Conference on 17th October 2024 at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa in Cork. This report presents a summary of the workshop.

The workshop highlighted challenges faced by Ireland’s National Authority Infrastructure, Local Authority Infrastructure, and Housing in the context of digital transformation. Key issues identified can be summarised as supports from senior management in organisations, better communication, and extensive training. National Authority Infrastructure stakeholders emphasised staff upskilling, data exchange understanding, and cybersecurity. Local Authority Infrastructure stakeholders identified funding, resource allocation, and leadership issues. Housing stakeholders faced challenges in management direction, communication, and training. The importance of a common data environment (CDE) and full asset lifecycle management was emphasised. The workshop also noted the long-term benefits of digital transformation despite initial costs and challenges.
